Dynamic evolution of the oscillatory Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction upon addition of a non-ionic polymer

2006

Abstract The dynamic evolution of the oscillatory Belousov–Zhabotinsky reaction upon addition of increasing amount of the non-ionic polymer polypropylene glycol with molecular weight 425 g mol−1 (PPG-425) was investigated in a stirred-batch reactor by monitoring the Ce(IV) absorbance changes. The oscillatory parameters are significantly altered by the presence of the polymer. The findings obtained in the present work revealed that the PPG-425 is not only more effective, than other polymer previously [R. Lombardo, C. Sbriziolo, M.L. Turco Liveri, K. Pelle, M. Wittmann, Z. Noszticzius, in: J.A. Pojman, Q. Tran-Cong-Miyata (Eds.), Nonlinear Dynamics in Polymeric Systems, American Chemical Soci…

ChemInform Abstract: Acid-Mediated Reaction of Bis(pyridine)iodonium(I) Tetrafluoroborate with Aromatic Compounds. A Selective and General Iodination…

2010

Reaction of aromatic compounds with bis(pyridine)iodonium(I) tetrafluoroborate (IPy2BF4) in the presence of HBF4 or CF3SO3H in CH2Cl2 at room temperature furnishes monoiodo derivatives with excellent regioselectivity and yields. Use of either acid gives comparable results with activated aromatics, whereas CF3SO3H is much more effective in the iodination of deactivated aromatics. © 1993 American Chemical Society.

Worldwide Scientific Research on Nanotechnology: A Bibliometric Analysis of Tendencies, Funding, and Challenges

2020

[EN] The main objective of this investigation was to analyze the scientific production in global research on nanotechnology, integrating scientific production, funding of studies, collaborations between countries, and the most cited publications. The source for obtaining the research papers for our analysis was the Science Citation Index Expanded from the Web of Science. A total of 3546 documents were extracted during the period of 1997-2018. Food science & technology, chemistry (applied and analytical), spectroscopy, and agriculture appeared as the main areas where the articles were published. Most prolific and cited journals were Analytical Methods, Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemis…

Stanislao Cannizzaro and the Development of Chemistry in Palermo from 1862 to 1871

2009

Stanislao Cannizzaro worked at Palermo University for about ten years. There he managed to establish a modern and well-equipped chemical laboratory. His international fame attracted co-workers even from abroad: Naquet, Lieben, and Körner came to Palermo to work with him. This greatly improved the quality of teaching and of research in Palermo, which became a worldwide acknowledged center of chemical culture. In Palermo, atomic-molecular theory was extensively taught and research was carried out on chemical atomicity (valence) and spatial structures of both aliphatic and aromatic organic molecules: Körner found the relative positions of substituent groups on the benzene ring, Paternò proved …

Selection From Bibliographic Resources of an Analytical Method for Cosmetic Products

2018

Abstract This chapter is focussed on a general strategy to select an appropriate method from the scientific literature to solve an analytical problem in cosmetic analysis using useful and flexible web tools. A short introduction on the use of ScienceDirect (Elsevier), Scopus (Elsevier), SciFinder Scholar (American Chemical Society), Web of Science (Thomson Reuters) and the freely available Google Scholar is given. The main analytical features to be considered in the selection of the method, such as limit of detection, limit of quantification, linearity, precision (repeatability, intermediate precision and reproducibility), selectivity, robustness and accuracy, are briefly described. Additio…
